Traditional Jazz Band - Blues (1993)
Amazing brazilian jazz bandThe ‘Traditional Jazz Band’ was created in 1964 by a group of friends who were not only trying to reproduce the traditional jazz from New Orleans but also to study and recreate it with a contemporary touch, in such a way that each element of the band could have its own space for creation. According to the Jazz critic from the American newspaper New York Times, Mr. John Wilson, they succeeded. “Traditional is based on various sources, but they do things in an innovative, personal way, without copying things from anyone – they have their own style”, says the critic. Developing this type of work does not mean simply having the technical command of a musical instrument. According to Charlie Parker, “if you haven’t lived Jazz, it won’t get out of your instrument”. Traditional believes in that. During the band’s performances, its musicians feel a deep and mystical interior experience and can make their emotions and experiences flow among the members of the band and the audience. This is the emotional and cultural dialogue of Jazz, what comes to destroy the myth that has impaired the development of this style in Brazil: the mistaken idea that Jazz is just for the experienced ones.
