The ‘Traditional Jazz Band’ was created in 1964 by a group of friends who were not only trying to reproduce the traditional jazz from New Orleans but also to study and recreate it with a contemporary touch, in such a way that each element of the band could have its own space for creation. According to the Jazz critic from the American newspaper New York Times, Mr. John Wilson, they succeeded. “Traditional is based on various sources, but they do things in an innovative, personal way, without copying things from anyone – they have their own style”, says the critic. Developing this type of work does not mean simply having the technical command of a musical instrument. According to Charlie Parker, “if you haven’t lived Jazz, it won’t get out of your instrument”. Traditional believes in that. During the band’s performances, its musicians feel a deep and mystical interior experience and can make their emotions and experiences flow among the members of the band and the audience. A Traditional foi criada em 1964 por um grupo de amigos que buscavam não apenas reproduzir o Traditional Jazz de Nova Orleans, mas pesquisar e recriá-lo com toques contemporâneos, de tal modo que cada elemento da banda tivesse seu espaço próprio de criação. Formada por três engenheiros, um profissional de marketing, um advogado, um administrador de empresas e um produtor cultural, a banda já realizou centenas de shows no Brasil e no exterior, incluindo participações de destaque em vários Festivais de Jazz nas cidades de New Orleans, Nova Yorque, Washington e Boston, nos Estados Unidos e Festivais em cidades da América do Sul em países como a Argentina, Uruguai, Chile e Paraguai.
